With heavy hearts, we must share that Search Dog Lola crossed the Rainbow Bridge with her handler Johnny Subia at her side. Lola was a stray..., rescued from death row by a Bay Area rescue group, and eventually came to the attention of trainers Pluis and Kate Davern at Sundowners Kennels, where SDF Search Dogs were being trained. She was a perfect fit and after completing training, was partnered with Johnny as part of California Task Force 4, which she served with for 8 years. Our thoughts go out to Johnny and his family both at home and at the fire department - Lola leaves big paw prints to fill!
Lola was a K-9 member for the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation and not a member of DDI.

It is with a heavy heart that we must announce K-9 Charlie one of our "Care For Life" dogs has crossed the Rainbow bridge. We found Charlie at a groomer, he had been abandoned by his owner and living at groomers shop/doggy day care for more than a year. We adopted Charlie and found a foster home for him while waiting for his training to begin. Disaster Dogs of Illinois had an MOU with TOPS kennels in Grayslake to train him for USAR work. Just day's before his training was to begin he came up lame. X-rays revealed an old injury, a tear to his ACL. It was determined Charlie was not a suitable candidate for Disaster work and placed into our "Care For Life" program. Charlie was placed with a family in Wisconsin where he was able to live the rest of his life as a loved and cared for family pet. Thank you to the Weiss family for taking him in and to the Boeder family for being his foster family. May you run free now, without pain. Until we meet again on the other side.
Charlie has crossed the Rainbow Bridge on 1/12/19.
